Jane Austen and English
Bath Academy is situated next door to the famous Jane Austen Centre, and this course combines General English tuition with excursions to places and sites connected with Jane Austen.
Key Facts:
- One-week course for groups of students aged 16-18, or aged over 18 (individually or in groups.)
- Two hours of General English each weekday morning
- Preparation for excursions (history, literature, vocabulary etc.)
- Visits and activities in the afternoon (see below.)
Visits:
- Walking tour of Bath to see places connected with Jane Austen
- Visit to The Jane Austen Centre
- Visit to The Museum of Fashion and Costume (Georgian dress)
- Visit to No 1 The Crescent (furnished Georgian house)
Activities:
- Tea in The Pump Room
- Food in Georgian times: recipes, tasting, cooking (depending on numbers)
- Reading of a selection of Jane Austen's works
- Screening of films based on Jane Austen's novels
The above programme is a suggestion only and can be adapted to suit individuals or groups; for example, teaching or revising a Jane Austen novel for examination purposes; without the General English; with the addition of extra excursions.
There may be extra activities at certain times of the year (for example during the 'Jane Austen Festival').
