GCE A level courses
Bath Academy Sixth Form Centre offers a wide range of GCE A level
courses for both British and International students.
Some students come to Bath Academy Sixth Form Centre for a two
year A level course, because their current school does not have
a Sixth Form, or cannot offer the required subjects or combination
of subjects, or it is felt that the school no longer suits the
student’s needs.
Some students decide to join Bath Academy Sixth Form Centre after
their AS levels to take a one year A2 level course because they
have done less well than they hoped, or have become disenchanted
with their school, or feel that they initially made the wrong choice
of a subject and would like to start a new one.
Some students come to Bath Academy Sixth Form Centre because they
have failed to gain the required grades for their chosen university
course. They attend for one term (September – January) or
one year to retake their examinations.
Some students come to Bath Academy Sixth Form Centre after a break
in their studies, perhaps having left formal education after GCSE
or AS levels..
Some students come to Bath Academy Sixth Form Centre because of
specific needs, for example dyslexia (Bath Dyslexic Institute is
across the road) or the need for English Language Teaching or an
IELTS qualification (please see the section on ‘English Language
Teaching’).
Some students come to Bath Academy Sixth Form Centre for a fast-track
five term A level course (start January). These may be international
students or those who have realised after one term that their school,
Further Education College or choice of subjects is not for them.
Some students come to Bath Academy Sixth Form Centre because they
wish to study in the UK and A levels are internationally recognised
as a qualification for entry to British universities.
