Sixth Form Centre

Bath Academy Sixth Form Centre is the independent Sixth Form College section of Bath Academy dedicated to the successful teaching of A level subjects.

Both British and International students aged 16+ are welcome to study:

• A two year A level course
• A one year A level course
• A one term (September – January) or one year course to retake modules at AS or A2

Why study A levels?

• A levels are the key to the entry to the best universities for the best subjects
• A levels have world wide recognition and prestige as the ‘gold standard’ of high school education
• Employers look upon A levels as very important qualifications as they have a

                  great depth of study and are a strong preparation for university courses

• A levels require much independent study, organization, time management and research and so lay a sound foundation for future studies and employment
• A levels are rewarding, especially for students who love their subjects

 Two Year Course 

• One, two, three or four subjects
• Choose from the areas of Business/Finance or Science/Mathematics
• Other subjects may be available

One Year Course 

• Three subjects
• Choose from the areas of Business/Finance or Science/Mathematics
• Other subjects may be available

Art and Psychology are also available.

It may be possible to study other subjects with individual tuition.

All classes are small so that students benefit from the teacher’s attention. As well as tuition in each subject (including laboratory (practical) work for Science subjects), students are expected to do a further 3 hours a week study on their own in each subject.

In order to assess progress and understanding, regular (at least once every half term) tests are set and marked. ‘Mock’ examination weeks are held at the end of the Autumn and Spring Terms and formal reports are issued to parents once a year.

In September of the A2 year, information on choosing a degree subject, university, the UCAS process and writing a Personal Statement is given to the students.

Each student has a Personal Tutor to oversee academic progress and help with any personal or work-related problems and, at the start of the A2 course, an additional UCAS Tutor is appointed who will help the student throughout the whole application process and write a reference. Advice and practical help is also available at the time of the publication of A level results.

Subject teachers are all approachable and unstintingly give of their time and efforts to help the students and Senior Staff are always available to help with any problems or queries.

Attendance at lessons is monitored on a daily basis and parents/agents will be informed of any cause for concern with regard to punctuality, attendance, work rate and progress. Parents are very welcome to contact or visit the College to discuss any concerns they may have or to learn first hand about their son’s/daughter’s progress.

To complement the academic studies at Bath Academy Sixth Form Centre, there is a varied social programme and students are encouraged to suggest or organise their own activities.

Local students live at home and there is hostel and homestay accommodation for those from abroad or elsewhere in the UK.

• Minimum age 16
• 5 GCSEs, grade C and above or good secondary or high school education
• High level of English competence (minimum IELTS 5.5/TOEFL 550) or pre-sessional English course
