Each year some of our Bath Academy students travel to London to partake in the CIFE Challenge.
CIFE is a group of 23 independent UK colleges. The CIFE Challenge is an inter-college quiz that takes place in different locations in London – this year it took place next to the National History Museum, the Baden Powell House.
The quiz rounds are complex and challenging with questions about Maths, Geography, History, Science and General Knowledge. The rounds require sharp attention to detail, diverse and detailed knowledge, and razor-quick reactions.
“Our Bath Academy team this year were under no illusion when we journeyed to London at the crack of dawn – with the mission of taking on the might of fifteen larger colleges!” – John Desmond, Study Centre Supervisor
Fardad, Ben, Pitou, Maxine and Willem were the ‘University Challenge’ superheroes coming in the first four teams in just a few rounds. In the end it was a very dramatic finish – third place – Ashbourne – second place – BATH – first place (by a whisker and only ONE point) – Rochester! Thrilling!
This year’s questions were based on a wide range of topics from the expected; of sport, Maths, Science etc but also ranged from the far reaches of Korean Hip Hop to the traditions of Christmas. For example, here’s a question that was asked on the day: ‘How many presents were given in total during the twelve days of Christmas?’ – Answers on a postcard!
We want to congratulate and give a round of applause to our CIFE team. Well done team! We are very proud of you all representing Bath Academy, and glad you had an amazing time!
