Liam first embarked on a career in teaching after working previously as a Research and Policy Analyst in London. Gaining experience from Truro College in Cornwall, Liam specialises in social and political sciences and is also an exam marker for Psychology and Politics. He has taught a number of different subjects during his time at Bath Academy, assisting both UK and international students at GCSE and A-Level, as well as for the University Foundation Programme.
Liam was appointed the role of Senior Tutor in September 2017 where he was responsible for the professional development of a small team of teachers at Bath Academy. In the summer of 2020, we welcomed Liam to our Senior Managment Team as he became Vice-Principal for our Academic department. Liam is excited for this new leadership role where he will continue to manage our team of teachers and help students reach their academic goals.
Hi! I’ve been teaching English for five years, both in the UK and Spain. I live just outside Bath (my favourite city in the world) with my wife, Wendy and my little dog, Peggy.
I love teaching English and my lessons are informal and fun. My pet hates include lateness and people not doing what they say they are going to do. My pet loves are enthusiastic students and warm sunshine (very rare in England).
Paul swapped a career in accountancy for teaching in 1989. He then worked at Sexey’s School Bruton until 2010. During his career at Sexey’s, he was Head of Sixth Form for seven years and then Deputy Head for five years until he left in 2010.
After leaving Sexey’s, Paul spent three years as a Senior Consultant delivering leadership and governors training programmes for the National College. Paul has also worked as a Senior Examiner for OCR and continues to work as an examiner for CIE.
In 2013, Paul was tempted back to working in a school and became a Senior Tutor at Millfield School, back to his roots in enterprise education. Paul has been connected with Bath Academy since 2016 and was delighted to join a great team of colleagues as Vice-Principal in January 2019.
I’m Carolyn. I’m an EFL teacher. As well as teaching at Bath Academy, I’ve also taught in Budapest, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic. When I’m not teaching, I run a small independent theatre company Rapscallion, which performs in Bath and the South West.
I’m Ariel! I grew up in Bath and did my teacher training here. I have a theoretical background from studying Linguistics at Cambridge, but my classes are lively and interactive. I’m a huge language nerd – I speak seven – and a writer. I love bringing storytelling into the classroom, as we are surrounded by stories in our everyday lives. For example, I run a podcast called Easy Stories in English, where I read out short fiction graded to different levels for learners of English. In my free time I read, write, and study languages – I told you I was a nerd!
I am a languages graduate with a Diploma qualification in EFL. I started my teaching career at a language school in Bournemouth before becoming an EFL lecturer in Southampton. I have since taught general, business and academic English to both young learners and adults in Bath and Bristol. Most recently my teaching has been focused on the IELTS and IGCSE exams. In my spare time I enjoy walking and going to the theatre.
I trained to teach EFL in 1998 and I moved to Taiwan where I began my English teaching career. I have extensive experience in teaching General English at all levels and preparing students for IELTS. I really enjoy helping students develop their skills in English. With a Master’s degree in Business and experience in Banking, I also teach English for Business. My interests include music, cinema, bird-watching, reading and horticulture.
Hello everyone. I’m Stella and I have recently joined the fantastic team at the Academy. Originally, I was a scientist having gained a B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry. After many years of research and a number of publications I realised I enjoyed the academic language and writing aspects as much as the science. So, I did a ‘Diploma in English Language Studies’ followed by a B.A. in ‘English Language and Literature’. Combined with my love of foreign cultures through having lived abroad for several years, I chose to continue my development with a CELTA course so that I can share my interest in the idiosyncrasies of the English language.
In my spare time I walk my dog across the beautiful meadows of Bath.
H, I’m Rachael. As a modern languages graduate, I love language learning and know well just how challenging and rewarding the experience can be. I’ve been teaching English since 2002, spending much of my time living abroad, in Turkey. After returning to the UK in 2013, I completed my Trinity Diploma in TESOL and since then, have been enjoying helping our Bath Academy students to develop their English and achieve their aims. I’m also pleased to have recently started managing our Junior Summer School programme.
